OVERVIEW
C24 Capital Limited is a fast-growing financial institution in Nigeria. Based in Lagos, Nigeria. Today, we are committed to providing individuals and businesses with quick, convenient, and secure access to loans to actualize opportunities around them.
THE CHALLENGE
Transiting from a website to a mobile app.
Fast forward to 2021, C24 Capital Limited provides its services only via its official website which was not competitive enough as most competitors have mobile apps that make it easy for customers to access loans.
To coincide with the C24 Capital transition plan, I was tasked to deliver a high-fidelity mobile app design that has all the features on its current website with an improved user experience.
KICKOFF
Starting from a place of understanding
Going into this project I had already used loan apps by competitors. So, I had a few assumptions and ideas of how a loan app should look and feel.
To kick off the project, I had a meeting with the development team at C24 Capital limited which was a fact-finding and scope definition exercise that I used as an opportunity to ask questions to understand the processes and features within the mobile app.

In addition to the data gathered at the kickoff meeting, I did desk research as this was the only visible research method possible based on the budget and timeline for the project.
The research was directed toward competitors’ mobile apps that are directly and indirectly related to the C24 capital business model.

Adding colors and form
After the feedback made on the wireframes was integrated and approved, I created the high-fidelity design with Figma.

The C24 Capital Loan app has received both positive and negative feedback. Users have responded well to the app's user-friendliness. Unfortunately, negative feedback broadly relates to the application and disbursement of loans — issues beyond my control and subject to ongoing improvements.

TAKEAWAY
What I’ve learned
In retrospect, what I learned is that involving users early would reduce time spend on updates. Due to the constraints of timeline and budget, most of my research was done at my desk and it made some of the designs have a poor user experience because I did not involve the lenders in the process.
Since the end of my contract, the team has gone on to iterate upon and evolve the product and better address some of the issues that were identified.
